Which piece of glass is it?

The glass on a vehicle is not one part. Use the diagram to name the opening, then send the registration.

A windscreen, a door drop, a fixed quarter and a heated rear screen do different jobs, and they are ordered as different parts. Tint, a camera, a wiper hole or simply the side of the car can split one model into several pieces of glass.

This page is the short version: name the opening, notice what is fitted to it, and send that with the registration. If you are between two similar pieces, a photo is enough. We would rather see the opening than guess.

Chip damage is a separate question from a cracked or missing piece. A small chip can sometimes be repaired. A crack that has run, or glass that is out, needs a replacement. If you are unsure, send a close photo before you order a screen.

What to send the Dublin desk.

  1. 1

    The vehicle

Registration, make, model and year. A VIN helps on difficult applications, but the plate is the usual start.

  2. 2

    The opening

Windscreen, front or rear door, rear screen, or quarter light. Say driver or passenger side when the glass is not in the centre of the car.

  3. 3

    What you can see

Camera, rain sensor, heating, aerial, privacy tint, a wiper, or a brake-light cut-out. If you cannot tell, say so and add a photo.

The openings

A plain-language map.

A

Windscreen

The laminated front glass. Newer vehicles may carry an ADAS camera, a rain sensor, acoustic laminate, heating or a head-up display. Each of those can change the part.

B

Door glass

The glass that drops, or is fixed, in the front and rear doors. Name the door and the side. Green tint and privacy tint are not interchangeable.

C

Rear screen

The main glass at the back, often heated, sometimes with an aerial in the glass. A tailgate screen is not the same part as a fixed rear screen, even on a similar model.

D

Quarter glass

Smaller fixed glass ahead of a front door or behind a rear door. Left and right rarely match. A photo of the piece, or of the empty opening, is the useful extra.

A chip is not automatically a new windscreen. Photograph it.

Once a crack has run, replacement glass is the usual supply.

Send the registration and which opening it is.

We will come back with the glass that matches the vehicle.
